Anglesey
Circuit is located just off the A4080 between Rhosneigr and
Aberffraw in Anglesey, North Wales.
Originally called Ty Croes, the Anglesey racing circuit arose out of
a fertile conversation between car racer Richard Peacock and Michael
Douglas, manager of the Bodorgan Estate.
Since it opened for bike racing in 1992, and car racing in 1997,
Anglesey has become a popular addition to the national scene.
The Bodorgan Estate has owned the land on which the circuit is sited
for centuries, temporarily selling it to the Army in 1941, when it was
developed as a rocket launching area. The estate was recently able to
buy back much of what it had sold, complete with the network of roads
the Army had installed. In common with many UK tracks, the roads were
linked and improved and, hey presto, a race track.
Anglesey now plays host to bike and car races, rallycross and single
venue rallies. Plans are afoot to lengthen the existing 1.7km track and
create a facility capable of running different events at the same time.
So what can you expect if you visit this far corner of North Wales?
Anglesey is a fairly short, but quite fast circuit, with lap times
typically similar to the Brands Indy Circuit. Contained within are some
really challenging bends, perhaps making Anglesey the Welsh equivalent
of Knockhill, only much wider.
